Innocent World Osaka store tour!

Editors' note: all week long, we're running a series of store tours showcasing the brands we carry and how they present themselves in Japan. We're doing this to promote our brands and the fashion in general, and also because it's fun. It's rare for anyone to be allowed to film inside a Japanese brand boutique. We do hope that after seeing these reports, you'll buy clothes from us sometime through our main web site.

We're going to kick off our 2010 set of brand store tours with one of our two classic Lolita brands.  You may wonder what we're actually getting out of doing these reports, and the answer is twofold.  First, it only helps us sell more clothes if we can promote the fashion and generate more interest in it.  And second, it's just fun for us.  We're people just like you and we love the clothes, and not many people get to take pictures or video inside these stores.  So, enjoy along with us!

Innocent World Osaka main store:
Osaka City, Chuo-ku Nishi shinsaibashi 1-10-28-506.

Innocent World is relatively young, but has quickly grown into one of the largest Lolita brands in the world with their excellent material and construction quality along with classically inspired designs that incorporate cute motifs like bunnies and cats.  The brand is headquartered in Osaka, where its flagship store remains.

Like most street fashion brands with an Osaka presence, Innocent World's store is in American Village, Osaka's closest equivalent to Harajuku. They have a small limited time shop located on ground level, but the main store is actually on the fifth floor of a mixed commercial/residential building. It's definitely a destination store - you're not going to find yourself there by mistake. This is pretty common in Japan, where many popular boutiques are located high above ground in otherwise nondescript buildings.

The store is serene, with a calming warm light pooled around the merchandise.  Strains of Pachelbel could be heard while we were there. In some ways the Classic Lolita style is even more a polar opposite to our rock and punk brands than Sweet Lolita is. Classic is really still about transporting back to a simpler, more elegant time, and Innocent World's store reflects this both in the shop design and the clothes themselves.

Thanks to Tajima-san for taking care of us while we were at the store, and thanks to all at the main office for a really nice visit too!

We expect to be carrying more Innocent World items in the future.  As always, we're open to suggestions for the types of items you'd most like to see.  We've already seen a few things we know we're ordering from the company's yet to be announced fall lineup, so you'll just have to wait and see what they are!
