Last night the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC held what turned out to be a pretty major event for us - a tea party and Lolita panel with us as guests! We didn't really know what to expect at all until shortly before the event, but there ended up being around 300 RSVP's, from what we were told - a sellout!
The panel was with Dr. Valerie Steele, curator of the Museum at FIT. There's a Japanese fashion exhibit in the museum right now (called Japan Fashion Now), and this was one of the events scheduled around that. We took questions from Dr. Steele and the audience about the fashion and our store. Some of the questions were unexpected - like whether the clothes we carry are produced in eco-friendly ways, for example - (wish we could have answered a few of these better!) but overall we hope we got our points across. We definitely had to think on our toes a few times!
We don't yet have pics of the panel event - FIT was taking official photos that they promised to send us - but here are some photos we took of the setup and the tea party afterwards. The tea party was fun, and kind of a madhouse! (The NY Times was there, and they've posted a slideshow/writeup of their own, though they seem a bit bemused by the whole thing. This was not the same reporter that wrote about our store last year.)
These are pictures of the spread before the fun began. Apparently one person made everything for this event herself.
Tara was the official Angry model for Hangry & Angry! Our goal is to infiltrate all levels of Japanese street fashion. Muahahaha.
This is part of our table setup. We mainly brought small things to sell and promo items.
Posters we had on the wall behind us. We also had three dress forms next to us, though none of our pictures of them turned out that well...
Here are Hangry & Angry together. They were modeling Hangry & Angry's designs during the panel.
This is some of the crowd around our table. We were so busy that we couldn't even get out to taste any of the food before it was gone. The organizers finally had to bring us some that they had stashed away as we were packing up for the night - which was nice of them!
Looking down at the Hangry & Angry table. Hi Tara!
More of the people at our table. A lot of people we know were at the event last night, so it was a pretty friendly crowd. But we saw a lot of new faces too.
Incidentally, thanks to our helper above for helping out behind our table during the event, and watching our stuff! (Sorry, I don't think we got your name!)
We'll hopefully have more to post from this event soon.
