Harajuku My Way #6: Misako Aoki and Lolita fashion encounter

Harajuku My Way is a series of exclusive blog posts from real-world street fashion icons in Japan.
This is the real Harajuku lifestyle!
#6 is written by model and Kawaii Ambassador Misako Aoki.

I am Misako Aoki, I am a Lolita fashion model and also work as a registered nurse in Japan!

It has been more than 10 years since I became involved in Lolita fashion.

I wrote about my encounter with Lolita fashion today.

The first time I wore Lolita outfits was when I was in high school.

I had an opportunity to get into the KERA street snap page, then they asked me to be a model. So I wore pure white Lolita fashion for the first time of photo shooting!

At that time I used to love vintage clothing, so I felt a culture shock by knowing that there were clothes to become like a princess!

Then, after becoming a model for KERA, Lolita fashion changed my life very much!

I had a full feeling of inferiority complex, and my personality of introversion and shyness changed to confidence for some reason after wearing Lolita fashion! It was such magic!

The major turning point was the time I was chosen to be a Kawaii ambassador commissioned by the Foreign Minister in 2009.

Since Lolita fashion was becoming popular in overseas, I have been active by thinking if Lolita fashion that originated in Japan becomes a trigger for many people to be interested in Japan's culture.

Since then, I have visited 20 countries and more than 30 cities, and I've met many Lolita fashion lovers around the world.

Now, Lolita fashion is becoming more widespread, and I feel very pleased when people in the countries I haven’t visited, already know me.

I will continue to visit many more countries and hope to expand the circle of Lolita fashion.

Thank you for cheering me up always, I am looking forward to seeing you in the future.

The first country I visited as a Kawaii ambassador was Paris, France. I was with Yu Kimura who was also Kawaii ambassador.

This is in 2010.

I was invited for the Lolita fashion show at F.I.T. and also had a autograph session at TOKYO REBEL.

My first time to attend such a big anime event in America!

This opportunity made me realize that there were many people who love Lolita fashion in America!

This was when I attended Fashion week.

We had a tea party on the last day too!

Although my condition was not the best, I was very happy to see many fans who always come and see me!
